Powerless...
Hehehe, I couldn't resist the melodramatic title! :-)
This is Kirsten. Our planned blog post didn't happen tonight because our power went out for a couple of hours.
It wasn't storming, or unusually windy, or anything. It just went out randomly. That happens now and then. We think maybe our neighbourhood has faulty wiring, because the power was out all up and down our street, like it does every couple of months.
It was really dark, because we have a downstairs apartment so there wasn't any moonlight coming in. When the lights first went out and our vision was adjusting, I accidentally elbowed Bree in the eye; she was very forgiving. We read books by candlelight, and chatted. When we had to go to the bathroom we took the little light Blakeney uses for her e-book reader, and it was kind of creepy with that pale little glow shining on the mirror. Our eyes got really tired from being in the dark, and it got cold because the heat was off, so we took the covers from our beds, gave up on reading, and just talked.
It was kind of an adventure, I guess.
Love,
Kirsten
No longer in the dark!

I agree with you about it being an adventure. It's kind-of fun to just talk and disconnect every so often, and no electricity makes you do that ;) Plus, candles are fun. I'm glad Bree didn't get hurt.
ReplyDeleteOooohhhhh I love it when the lights go out every once in a while because it is fun to 'rough' it .. but it would not be fun when it happens often .. and specially not when there is no heat without your electricity .. brrrrrrr ..
ReplyDeleteGlad that the power is back and you are posting again ..

Yeah, it WAS fun. It was a nice change of pace. Almost like we were camping. We're glad the power didn't stay off all night, though! Then it would have gotten reeeally cold.
ReplyDeleteBree is fine, don't worry. She has a hard head. I mean... um... a tough constitution. ;-)
Love,
Kirsten
This is Bree.
ReplyDeleteOH REALLY, Kirsten?
I was so nice about this, and now I hear on the blog I have a hard head?
:-P

YOU DO! Like, in a literal way. Your skull bruised my elbow!

Oh poor baby!

Haha, you guys are hilarious! The power used to go out in my old house quite a bit, but usually in the summer when it doesn't get dark until way late and with no air conditioning it was kind of suck-y. I do love when the power goes out, though. It's exciting and spooky!
ReplyDeleteEmily
Hi, Emily. This is Kirsten.
ReplyDeleteGlad you think we're funny rather than just crazy and weird!
We don't have any air conditioning because we don't live in a climate where it's needed, but if you did, I think it would be much worse. It's more fun to crawl under the blankets than to sit there sweating!

Salut, girls!
ReplyDeleteOooh...I love it when the power goes it! It's especially fun to sit around and tell ghost stories, or if you're Lilly and others, play the Ouija board...
No, I don't think you girls are crazy. You sound like a fun bunch that I'd enjoy. :)
Sabine
Hi Sabine,
ReplyDeleteIf you're ever in our part of Canada, you should come visit! We'd have a great time! :-)
We don't have a Ouija board but we did tell some ghost stories. The funny thing is that Evelyn is only eight and she liked them... but Felicity is fifteen and I think she got scared! Hahaha!
Love,
Kirsten
Kirsten, when we lived in Scotland, our flat only had heating from 5-10pm and 7-10am. It took awhile to get used to! We slept in sweats every night. I guess that's kind-of what it would be like to have the power go out on your AC, if you've never needed AC. Next time we know to check the heating hours on our contract! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, Cate, that's not very much heat! Did it get very cold there? Brrr!
ReplyDeleteWe don't need air conditioning here, but we definitely need heat. We're in sub-arctic Northern Canada. It gets very chilly!
The heat was only out for a couple of hours, and it's late March... but a whole night without heat in January, say, would be uncomfortable at best and dangerous at worst.
We're really fortunate that we have a nice warm home! It's sad that not everyone does.
