The Deathly Hallows

Did you see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? Did you love it?

*Warning, Spoilers*

We did on Friday evening ("we" meaning sisters, including Clare, plus Blakeney and our neighbours,) and we did love it! We've grown up with the Harry Potter series, and it's pretty important to us. The world of Hogwarts is such a fascinating and magical one. It's kind of bittersweet that the stories have come to an end, although the Pottermore website seems like an exciting way to continue the fun.

Most of us cried at some point during the movie. Even Blakeney cried - she loves Snape, and she was sad when he died, plus seeing his memories made her pretty emotional too. (Blakeney was gloating to us after the last book was released because she always knew Snape was good. Oh we of little faith! Still, kind of cool to argue about Harry Potter with your adult guardian.)

We've all read all of the books, but somehow seeing Hogwarts in ruins still had an impact. At least it ended on a happy, hopeful, optimistic note.

"All was well." ;-)

Love,
The Green Girls

  4. Hi, girls! :-)

Neri, Marsali, and Taryn - Hope you get to see it soon! It's really good.

We're sad it's over, though. Have you heard about the Pottermore website? It's J. K. Rowling's new project, and it sounds exciting. Knowing that's coming makes the ending a little less sad.

Keesha - We couldn't go at midnight either, but we went the next day too. We thought it was awesome! We're trying to talk Blakeney into taking us again. She says it's too expensive for us all to go to the movies, but SHE clearly wants to see it again, so I bet we will!

  5. I'm not much of a HP fan, but Kit is dying to see it. I'll probably go with her and her friend Riley. I know this is weird, but I'm kind of bummed that the movie/book ends happily. After all they've been through it seems kind of odd that there are no major repercussions (whoa, big word!). Or maybe there was and I just don't remember?

  6. Emily, I think the repercussions are probably bigger for the fans than for casual readers/viewers. We lost a LOT of characters who, although they might seem minor, are really quite beloved.

Although none of the main trio dies, their lives are forever altered, as is Hogwarts itself.

I see the ending as more bittersweet than happy, personally. That probably reflects a degree of emotional investment you may not have, though. (And that's totally fine, just saying.) I see it as more "life goes on," than everything being perfectly alright.

    Love,
    Kaya
